I am of course talking about the launch of SpaceX Falcon Heavy and the recovery of two of three boosters. The simultaneous landing of the boosters was like watching something out of a blockbuster movie but this was real! It took me back to the heyday of the Space Shuttle program from when I was a kid. I also thought of NASA’S glory years going to the moon. Just amazing to watch.
The success of this launch, which carried a car into space, which is hilarious in and of itself, shows the importance of chasing your dreams. Musk, the owner of SpaceX, has dreamed of doing a launch like this since he was a kid. He loved reading science fiction and dreaming of the stars. His stated goal is to die as a Martian colonist, I hope he reaches the stars.
The truly remarkable thing is this launch was entirely a private enterprise venture. Sure NASA provided the launch facility but everything else was paid for privately. I believe this will open a new door in the exploration of space. Government has never done anything as well as private enterprise and space exploration will be no different. I can’t wait to see what amazing things happen now.
Hopefully, NASA will embrace it role in facilitating commercialization of space ventures. I feel that is a great role for the agency. I am sure there will still be government missions but the bulk of the missions should go to private companies now.
My other thoughts on this success is the importance of chasing your dreams. We should always chase our dreams no matter how far fetched they seem; even if it is chasing a star. I look forward to humanity spreading out into the solar system and possibly beyond. It will take time but it is possible. Imagine being the first to set foot on Mars, the first to drink water mined from an asteroid, or to explore the moons of the gas giants. I hope I live to see it.
I know I must keep chasing my dreams. I still have a desire to make the world a better place. I have come to realize that I will probably be most impactful through writing. It doesn’t look as if I’m ever going to be a billionaire but if I can awaken the Dream of some young reader, ah, the possibilities.
Accomplishing these dreams of writing great, impactful books has often seemed like trying to catch the wind. Sometimes we just need concrete examples of what can be accomplished.
God took Joseph, a dreamer, and moved him from his humble roots to a position of being the second most powerful, and, for all intents and purposes, the most powerful man in the world. Now, I have no desire to be powerful, but I wouldn’t mind being influential and helping others dream big audacious dreams, Big, Huge, God given dreams. Joseph had an influence that exceeded his biggest dreams by being the salvation of his family he made possible for Jesus to descend from Judah, Joseph’s brother, allowing Jesus to become the light and savior of the world.
Maybe the things I want to write, speak, and teach about will change the world for one person. Change their world in a positive way so that they know Jesus is Lord, so that they too can change the world for someone. That is my hope and prayer; change someone’s outlook on life.
